Pencil Portrait Finished - Ashley

As promised here is one of the portrait commissions I completed at the end of 2011.

Drawn on Canson 160gm pastel paper with a combination of
Derment Prismacolor & Derwent Studio pencils.

My next post will be my 100th post and i think a giveaway would be in order. What do you think?

In other news, Life Book is up and running and as expected, its awesome. Over 900 students have enrolled thus far. Amazing huh? Well done to Tamara Laporte. I haven't completed week 1 yet, but am looking forward to working on it over the next few days or so.

I have also been asked to be involve in a new project. Whoo Hoo! But for now it remains under wraps while planning and preparations occur. I'll let you know all about it as soon as I'm able.

On a personal note, my youngest child recently turned 5 years old and starts school in a few weeks. I can't begin to tell you how bitter sweet this is. The positive side is the obvious, I'll have more time to get everything done and more. Artwork here I come. The negative side to this is the realization that my baby is growing up and will no longer be with me 24 hours a day (well, just about). I'm making the most of the remaining school holidays, as come early Feb my baby, my little buddy, my daily companion, my helper, my source of unconditional love, hugs and kisses, my little spark that makes me laugh every day without fail, will go to school with his brother Jack (6 years old) and his sister Louise (7 years old) and will no longer be by my side all day long.
Bitter sweet indeed.
I'm dreading that first day when I kiss and cuddle him goodbye and walk home......by myself. He, on the other hand, is ready and very excited about going and I will not let him see how big-a-deal this is for me. Instead I will make a big deal about how great the occasion is for him and how happy I am for him.
2012 is full of big changes for me and I am excited and eagerly looking forward to discovering what is in store. Time will tell.

I hope that 2012 brings you all the things you need in order to follow your dreams and live the life your are destined to live.

Humungous Hugs,
Kyles xo

  1. Oh I remember that bittersweet feeling so well, my youngest is nearly 8 now, but the memory of that day never fades....it is a big step for your baby and for you too, take care of you on that day and keep busy is my only advice.
You will be so happy to see him when it is hometime though, and he will be happy to see you too, that is a great feeling ;)

Awesome portrait, your pencil skills are fantastic!!

    1. Aww, thank you sweet Micki. I will be brave on the day. well at least until I get home for a bit of a sook. I imagine I will feel a bit lost the first few days, but will, no doubt, get used to it. Your youngest is the same age as my eldest. Louise is 8 in March. It seems like yesterday that she was born.

On a happier note, I have packaged up my artwork for you and am about to address it. I'm hoping you will receive it within 2 weeks, or thereabouts. xo

  2. Great job, dear!!
Children start primary school at 5 in your Country? Here in Italy at 6. They can even start Infancy School at 3 if their mothers are workers.
I hope he will find lots of friends. They grow up fast. I have 3 nephews. The youngest is 8 years old, and it seems yesterday that I cuddled him!! :))

    1. Thank you Black Pumpkin. He could start school next year at 6 if I wanted him to, but he's ready now. I know what you mean. Time sure does fly.

I saw your week 1 work from Life book. It looks great. I love how you kept your style instead of trying to do it exactly like Tams.

  3. Kyles, my 22 months Alan started going to school (an early education centre) two weeks ago and he's been doing well. They meet new friends and learn to be more independent. So don't worry.

    1. Hi Lucy,
Thank you. But I'm not worried about him at all. He is very ready for school and is very comfortable there, as his older siblings go there. I just need to get used to not having him with me all the time. The house will be so quiet without him, as he talks so much. My artwork will keep me busy and distracted I'm sure. xo

  5. Hi Kyles, fantastic portrait. I remember my eldest daughters first day at school. I dropped her off all smiles... I went home and sat with my mother in law over a cup of tea and we both cried. A right pair of wallys. You'll have so much to share when he get home and tells you all about his day. :)

    1. Hi Catherine, Thank you for sharing that with me. I was imagining the two of you, sitting around the kitchen table talking and sobbing. I imagine that will be me also. I took my youngest to buy school shoes yesterday and I could feel my eyes starting to water as I watched him proudly look down at his first pair of school shoes, with his siblings eagerly watching to see which shoes he chose. sniff....sniff xo

  7. HI Kyles I am here from the Aussie Lifebook page. I just love this portrait. You have done a fabulous job. I understand well your feelings about sending your youngest off to school (although that was 19 years ago for me and last year I sent her off again, but this time as her first year as a teacher). It is awesome how quickly time flies!! This year it is the turn of my eldest grandson. We have had the modelling of the uniform (tears in Grandmas eyes) and the arrival of his books- all terribly exciting. Enjoy this new phase in your lives.

  12. You sound wonderfully busy. Yes, they grow so very fast. Too fast. I work as a postpartum nurse and I tell all my first time parents to enjoy every moment because it flies by.
